Mr. Larry Muhammad, originally known as Larry Turner, hails from Youngstown, OH, and relocated to Boston, MA with his family in 1964. He completed his education in the Boston Public School system and went on to earn a degree in telecommunications from Northeastern University.

Larry’s professional journey began when he was recruited straight out of high school in Boston to study and work in telecommunications. Over the course of more than 40 years, he has established himself as an expert in building, managing, supporting, and troubleshooting communications technology infrastructure. His career has been marked by partnerships with industry leaders such as Avaya, Black Box, and former Lucent Technologies. In 1995, he took a significant step forward by founding his own telecommunications business, Advance Information Systems, where he served as CEO.

Driven by a profound sense of personal and community responsibility, Larry has actively volunteered with various non-profit organizations. He co-founded Metro-Boston Alive, a volunteer organization dedicated to mentoring at-risk youth, which received national recognition from Project Safe Neighborhood. He also served as the Chairman of Gang Peace, an initiative aimed at addressing escalating youth violence in Boston, which garnered national acknowledgment from President George H.W. Bush through the Points of Light Foundation.

A registered member of the Nation of Islam since 1993, Mr. Muhammad has held numerous positions within the organization at both local and national levels. He is part of an elite security team responsible for operations nationwide and internationally. Locally, he oversees the security of Muhammad Mosque No. 11 and is instrumental in the training and development of male members, holding the title of Director of Men.

In 2023, Larry transitioned from his successful telecommunications career to assume the role of Chairman of the Board at Torchlight Recovery, Inc., a non-profit organization committed to delivering culturally responsive recovery services to the Greater Boston community, with a particular focus on communities of color impacted by substance addiction.

He was appointed Operations Manager for Torchlight Inc.’s program, The Recovery Café, which addresses the urgent and unmet need for long-term recovery support for individuals facing challenges at the margins of society. In this capacity, Larry is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring efficiency, and meeting organizational objectives. He leads and supervises a dedicated team, providing guidance, coaching, and support to promote high performance and morale, all while prioritizing the delivery of exceptional services and enhancing participant satisfaction.
